Ukraine has opened discussions with several Middle Eastern countries to strengthen cooperation in the security sector and share its drone defence expertise, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said.
Zelenskiy disclosed that he visited Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain last month, where Ukraine offered its technology and experience in countering Iranian drone attacks.
He said security cooperation agreements had been signed with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, while a separate deal with the United Arab Emirates had also been announced.
According to him, Ukraine has deployed more than 200 experts to the region, adding that they have successfully intercepted Shahed drones used in long-range attacks.
“We used our own interceptors to shoot down Iranian ‘Shaheds.’ We demonstrated that achieving such results requires systemic solutions, particularly in the electronic warfare component,” Zelenskiy said.
He added that long-term security talks were ongoing, including proposed 10-year agreements with Oman, while discussions were also underway with Kuwait and Bahrain.
Zelenskiy further noted that negotiations on oil and diesel supplies to Ukraine formed part of the broader cooperation framework being explored with the Middle Eastern partners.
