…cites personal reflection
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and former House of Representatives candidate, Olufemi Onireti, has formally resigned his membership of the party, citing the outcome of what he described as a period of deep personal reflection.
The resignation, which takes immediate effect, was communicated in a letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP, Osupa Ward 9, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area on Thursday.
In the letter, Onireti noted that his decision was not taken lightly, describing it as both difficult and necessary after careful consideration of his personal convictions and political trajectory.
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he wrote. “This decision comes after a period of deep personal reflection.”

Onireti, who was the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives in the last general election, reflected on his years of active participation in the PDP, stating that the platform afforded him the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to political discourse and public service.
He acknowledged the role the party played in shaping his political journey, noting that his experiences within the PDP were instrumental to his growth both as a politician and as a public servant.
According to him, “The party has provided me with a platform for political participation, service, and personal development, for which I remain sincerely appreciative.”
Despite his resignation, Onireti expressed gratitude to party leaders, colleagues, and grassroots members for their support, cooperation, and camaraderie over the years. He emphasized that the relationships he built during his time in the party would remain valuable to him.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the relationships and experiences I gained during my time in the party. I wish the party well in its future endeavors,” he added.
Political observers say the development may have implications for the PDP’s structure in Ogbomoso North, where Onireti has been regarded as a notable figure within the party’s local hierarchy.
His departure is expected to trigger conversations among party stakeholders and could potentially influence alignments ahead of future political activities in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, Onireti has not disclosed his next political move, leaving room for speculation about a possible defection to another party or a temporary withdrawal from partisan politics.
