Non-implementation of commission of inquiries report responsible for increasing insecurity — Prof Kwaja – Tribune Online

A professor of international relations and strategic studies, Chris Kwaja, has blamed a lack of political will by people in authority to sanction those indicted in the previous commission of inquiries for increasing insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking with newsmen, Professor Kwaja, an aspirant for the Plateau North senatorial district, stated that if the perpetrators and sponsors were dealt with in accordance with recommendations, it would have acted as a deterrent to others.

According to him, there is the urgent need to review all previous reports of commissions of inquiries, particularly in Plateau State, to address sanctions and accountability for crimes committed.

“I support reviewing previous reports of commissions of inquiries, particularly from the perspective of sanctions and accountability for crimes committed. Impunity will continue to flourish as long as there’s no system in place for accountability.

“We need to invest in our institutions; they are very weak and politicised. As a result of this, they have been crippled in terms of ability and capability to handle critical public concerns.”

He also mentioned the active participation of youths and community leaders in addressing the country’s security concerns, emphasising the importance of vital stakeholders in the battle against insecurity to their strategic roles in society.

On the political situation in the country, Kwaja said that in any arrangement, there must be strong and weak political parties and debunked the notion that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the current predicament of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“In any political setting, there must be weak and strong political parties. Before the APC came on board, the dominant party was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the tide has changed in favour of the APC at the moment, and the APC is in charge,” he said.
