The Federal Government has dismissed the recent advisory by the United States authorising the departure of non-emergency personnel from its embassy in Abuja, describing the move as a routine precaution that does not reflect the overall security situation in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the government reassured Nigerians and the international community that public institutions remain fully operational, with no disruption to governance, economic activities, or daily life across the country.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the US decision was based on internal protocols rather than a deterioration in Nigeria’s security landscape.

He stressed that while isolated security challenges persist in some areas, there is no widespread breakdown of law and order.

“While we acknowledge isolated security challenges in some areas, there is no general breakdown of law and order, and the vast majority of the country remains stable,” Idris stated.

The minister highlighted ongoing improvements in security across several regions, attributing the gains to coordinated military operations, intelligence-led strategies, and strengthened collaboration among security agencies.

According to him, recent interventions have disrupted criminal networks, curtailed the activities of armed groups, and enhanced safety in previously vulnerable communities.

“Our security agencies remain actively engaged in protecting lives and property, and the results of these efforts are increasingly evident,” he added.

The Federal Government also emphasised that Nigeria remains open for business, travel, and investment, noting that ongoing economic reforms are boosting investor confidence and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

Idris said continued engagement by international partners and investors reflects sustained confidence in Nigeria’s stability and long-term prospects.

While recognising the right of countries to issue travel advisories based on their assessments, the government called for balanced and up-to-date reporting that reflects progress made in addressing security challenges.

It urged foreign partners to maintain close engagement with Nigerian authorities to gain a more accurate and current understanding of developments on the ground.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Federal Government assured citizens and visitors alike that Nigeria remains a safe and welcoming destination, with ongoing efforts aimed at consolidating security gains nationwide.
