Easter Symbolises Hope, Redemption – Cross River Governor

The governor of Cross River State in south-south Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu, has described Easter as the crowning glory of the Christian faith, symbolising hope, redemption, sacrifice, and the ultimate triumph of light over darkness.

In a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, the governor said that the journey from the crucifixion on Good Friday to the resurrection on Easter Sunday underscored the enduring message that hope and renewal were always possible through faith and perseverance.

Governor Otu, who urged citizens to remain steadfast in faith despite prevailing challenges, said Easter remained an eternal testimony that faith, love, and righteousness would prevail over trials, as every season of sacrifice gives way to renewal.

He said, “Easter reminds us that after every season of sacrifice comes the dawn of renewal. It is the eternal testimony that faith, love and righteousness will always prevail over trials and tribulations.”

Otu further commended Christians for their steadfast devotion during Lent, suggesting that the lessons of humility, sacrifice, forgiveness, and compassion, as exemplified by Christ, should guide relationships with fellow citizens and service to society.

He further stated, “Christ’s resurrection is the greatest message of hope known to humanity. It calls on all of us to rise above bitterness, division and despair; and to embrace unity, peace and love as the enduring pillars of our collective progress.”

Continuing, he urged all Nigerians to reaffirm their commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence, and shared responsibility in building a stronger and more prosperous society.

“As we celebrate this sacred season, let us remember that the spirit of Easter compels us to be our brother’s keeper, to uplift the downtrodden and to extend kindness to those, who need it most,” he urged.

On his part, Governor Otu reiterated the commitment of his administration to implementing policies and programmes that promote social harmony, economic progress, and inclusive development for all citizens of Cross River State, regardless of religious or ethnic background.
