Former member of the National Assembly and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ayo Adeseun, has formally resigned his appointment as Mayegun of Ogbomosoland, arguing that the suspension order by the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye Ghandi, is no longer standing.
Adeseun, who attributed his decision to the alleged high-handedness, self-centredness, and maladministration of Oba Olaoye, said there is no need for Kabiyesi to quash his earlier suspension order.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Oba Olaoye has suspended Adeseun as Mayegun over alleged insubordination.

However, Adeseun, at a press conference in Ogbomoso on Sunday, said he is not ready to sit down with Oba Olaoye, hence his decision to resign his appointment.
He blamed Soun over what he described as a divisive policy, adding that the Kabiyesi, since his assumption, has tried to set the peace-loving people of Ogbomoso against one another through religion and other unfriendly policies.
According to him, “I am not surprised by the suspension order since I have decided not to join forces with Soun to fight his perceived enemies.
“The issue of religion should not be the basis to cause division among the people of Ogbomosoland. Both the Christians and Muslims have been cohabiting together peacefully before the enthronement of Oba Olaoye as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland.
“I am a devout Muslim, while my wife is a devout Christian. We have been married together in the past 41st year, and we have not had issues over religion, like other Ogbomoso sons and daughters.
“The issue of the Chief Imam, Ayilara, is pending in the Court. Soun should not play the role of the presiding Justice on this matter.
“The Kabiyesi should allow the court to rule on the matter. If the Court in its ruling removes him, so be it. We should all embrace the rule of law.”
Adeseun, in his resignation letter dated 31st March 2026, recalls that since enthronement as Soun, the Kabiyesi has been entangled in indefensible supremacy battles with his major brother Obas in Ogbomosoland.
The letter read further, “Unwarranted attacks on various community-based organisations, who have traditionally been at the vanguard of meaningful, non-governmental development in Ogbomoso, e.g., the 114-year-old Ogbomoso Patapi Worldwide, the Exco of which you unilaterally sought to disband illegally until it hurts you in your tracks.
“Similarly, you began to wage war on various elites in the town who have proven themselves to be pillars of peace and progressive development in the town”.
Meanwhile, Oba Olaoye had, in a letter, suspended Senator Ayoade Adeseun indefinitely from his position as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland over alleged gross misconduct.
The decision was conveyed in a letter dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the palace secretary, Mr Toyin Ajamu.
The letter cited acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect towards the throne.
According to the letter, the action was taken to safeguard the dignity and sanctity of the traditional institution, noting that the former lawmaker’s conduct had become a matter of concern.
“I write on behalf of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye (Orumogege III), the Soun of Ogbomosoland and Paramount Ruler of Ogbomosoland, concerning your recent and continued conduct, which has become a matter of grave concern and embarrassment to the palace and the revered stool of the Soun.
“It is with deep regret, yet with a firm sense of royal duty and responsibility, that His Imperial Majesty has taken cognisance of your sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect toward the Palace and the sacred institution it represents.”
