Akure APC leaders demand governorship slot after Aiyedatiwa – Tribune Online

Leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure have urged political stakeholders to ensure equity and fair representation in the selection of the next governor, advocating for the emergence of an indigenous candidate from Akure after the tenure of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

This was the position of the APC leaders and elders from Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, contained in a communique issued and signed at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held in Akure, under the leadership of Prince Tony Ala

The communiqué, signed by Prince Tony Ala and other prominent party figures, including Sunday Adejuyigbe, Ifedayo Ologometa, Hon. Dele Faboro, Hon. Idowu Otetubi and Hon. Femi Bello, stressed the need for equity, fairness and inclusiveness in the state’s political structure.

Others include: Elder Micheal Olusanya Ojuola, Hon. Ifedayo Adewole, Hon Oluranti Fakinlede, Hon. Sunday Faleye, Hon. Muyiwa Adebayo (MAO), Hon. Enas Mohammed, Hon. Francis Belonwu, Hon. Rev. Abisola Oluwatayo and Mr Ayo Alabi among others.

According to the leaders, Akure, being the state capital, is well-positioned to produce the next governor, noting that the demand reflects the aspirations of the Akure-speaking people and supports balanced representation across the state.

According to them, the demand reflects the aspirations of the people of Akure speaking communities and aligns with the broader goal of balanced representation across the state.

The leaders resolved to strategically position a qualified indigene of Akure for the next governorship election of Ondo State after the tenure of Aiyedatiwa and to work collectively towards achieving victory.

“We have resolved to strategically position a qualified indigene of Akure for the next governorship election and work collectively towards achieving victory,” the communiqué stated.

The Akure leaders also reaffirmed their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa, throwing their weight behind the reelection of Tinubu in the 2027 election and pledged to begin grassroots mobilisation to secure his re-election in 2027.

They also passed a vote of confidence in Aiyedatiwa, commending his leadership style and efforts at sustaining unity within the party.

The stakeholders also endorsed Hon. Oluwafemi Fadairo for the Akure North/Akure South Federal House of Representatives seat and Hon. Adeola Rosemary Fynch for the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akure South Constituency I, citing their loyalty and grassroots appeal.

They, however, rejected automatic tickets for aspirants, insisting that only credible and widely acceptable candidates should fly the party’s flag in future elections.

While urging members to remain united, the leaders warned against actions capable of undermining party cohesion, reiterating their commitment to strengthening the APC at the grassroots ahead of forthcoming elections.
