Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was moved to tears while paying tribute to the late Senator who represented the Rivers South-East senatorial district at the National Assembly, Barinada Barry Mpigi.
Naija News reports that Mpigi died at the age of 64 on Thursday, February 19, and the funeral service was held on Friday in Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the event, Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, recalled how late Mpigi would visit him at his residence in Abuja and repeatedly pledge his loyalty, saying, “Master, I will not leave you.”
In the video making the rounds online, Wike, after making the statement, got emotional.

In other news, Wike has said he keeps a close watch on media reports, noting that he personally monitors what those he described as his “enemies” say about him.
Wike said he follows prime-time news on major Nigerian television stations, including Africa Independent Television, TVC News and Channels Television.
The minister disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Abuja, explaining that he prefers to get information firsthand rather than rely on aides or third parties for updates on public discussions surrounding him.
“I watch news all the time, AIT News, I will watch, TVC News, Channels, I watch all of them,” he said.
