Trabzonspor have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their Turkish Super Lig trip to Alanyaspor after top scorer Paul Onuachu was ruled out of the match.
The Nigerian striker was withdrawn from the travelling squad after sustaining a muscle problem in training, the club confirmed on Friday, April 10.
Paul Onuachu has been one of the standout performers in the Turkish Super Lig this season, scoring 24 goals in 28 appearances and accounting for 40 per cent of Trabzonspor’s league goals.
The club stated that the injury occurred during a session at the Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Facilities under the guidance of head coach Fatih Tekke.
“During today’s training session, our player Paul Onuachu felt pain and stiffness in the upper front muscle group of his left thigh,” the club stated.
“Following an initial assessment, a muscle injury is suspected, and he has therefore been removed from the squad for the Corendon Alanyaspor match. Treatment has been commenced by our medical team.”
The striker’s absence is a significant setback for Trabzonspor’s attack, given his consistency in front of goal this season.
There was, however, positive news for the visitors as fellow Nigerians Anthony Nwakaeme and Chibuike Nwaiwu were included in the travelling squad and could feature.
The Trabzonspor vs Alanyaspor clash is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. today, April 11.
