Texas basketball vs Mississippi State game score: Replay, highlights


With the NCAA postseason on the horizon, Texas women’s basketball coasted to its 26th victory of the season Sunday afternoon.

All-American forward Madison Booker scored 23 points while playing just 28 minutes, and Texas knocked down a season-high 11 3-pointers in a 92-42 rout of Mississippi State at Moody Center. With the 50-point win, the Associated Press poll’s No. 4 team improved to 26-3 on the season and 11-3 in SEC play with four of those conference wins coming by at least 30 points.

This was the third-to-last game on UT’s regular-season schedule.

Three days after it never faced a deficit in a blowout win at Arkansas, Texas trailed for only 21 seconds Sunday. The Longhorns led 24-8 by the end of the first quarter and took a 50-18 lead into halftime. Texas found itself up by as many as 53 points in the second half, and Mississippi State was unable to pull any closer than 30.

Texas made 11 of the 22 3-pointers it attempted, split among Jordan Lee’s five, Booker’s three, Aaliyah Crump’s two and Teya Sidberry’s one.

In the Arkansas game, UT made what was then a season-high 10 3-pointers. This marks the first time in at least 19 seasons that Texas has made double-digit 3-pointers in consecutive games. Texas last had two games in the same season with double-digit 3-pointers during the 2021-22 campaign.

Texas entered Sunday averaging 4.0 3-pointers per game, which ranked 336th among the 359 Division I teams and 16th in the 16-team SEC. In its eight games before playing Arkansas, UT had made a total of 20 3-pointers.

In addition to Booker’s offensive output, Texas got 17 points from Lee, 12 from Crump and 11 from Ashton Judd while point guard Rori Harmon had 11 assists against two turnovers. Favour Nwaedozi scored nine points to lead Mississippi State (18-10, 5-9).

Texas closes out its regular season next week at home against Georgia on Thursday and then Sunday’s trip to Alabama. Georgia and Alabama were respectively ranked 24th and 25th in the Associated Press poll this week although losses this past Thursday could cost the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide that top-25 status.

4th (4:43): Texas 90, Mississippi State 37

With 4:43 left in this lopsided contest, Texas has inserted all five of its seniors into the game. On Senior Day, Rori Harmon will get to play with classmates Kyla Oldacre, Teya Sidberry, Ashton Judd and Sarah Graves for a little bit.

4th (7:43): Texas 84, Mississippi State 34

With just under eight minutes left in this game, fans at Moody Center have started to chant that “We want Sarah (Graves).” A senior guard who first joined the Longhorns as a walk-on, Graves has only appeared in three conference games this season.

End 3: Texas 75, Mississippi State 31

Jordan Lee and Aaliyah Crump combined to make three 3-pointers in the third quarter, Texas has now made 11 of its 17 deep attempts. This success from behind the 3-point line comes three days after Texas made what was then a season-high 10 3-pointers in a rout of Arkansas.

The online stat archives on the Texas website date back to the 2007-08 season. Nowhere in those 19 seasons worth of stats are back-to-back games in which UT made at least 10 3-pointers. Texas last had two games with double-digit 3-pointers during the same season during its 2021-22 campaign.

Through three quarters, Madison Booker leads all scorers with her 21 points while Jordan Lee has scored 17. With five points, Favour Nwaedozi is Mississippi State’s leading scorer.

3rd (6:34): Texas 56, Mississippi State 23

Texas has slightly outscored Mississippi State in the third quarter and remains in complete control of the scoreboard. With 11 points, sophomore guard Jordan Lee has hit the double-digit scoring threshold for the fifth straight game.

Halftime: Texas 50, Mississippi State 18

Thanks to a balanced offensive attack, Texas will head into halftime at Moody Center with a comfortable lead. No Longhorn took more than seven shots in the first half, and Madison Booker’s 13 points lead the eight Longhorns who scored at least four points. Texas scored eight points in the paint while also hitting eight 3-pointers.

Booker ended the first half with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that came off an inbound pass from teammate Rori Harmon. That was the ninth assist of Harmon’s afternoon.

No Bulldog has scored more than four points so far. 

2nd (5:46): Texas 37, Mississippi State 12

After knocking down a season-high 10 3-pointers at Arkansas on Thursday night, Texas hasn’t cooled off from behind the arch. So far this afternoon, Texas has made seven of the 10 3-pointers it has attempted. Jordan Lee (three), Madison Booker (two), Aaliyah Crump (one) and Teya Sidberry (one) have all contributed to that shooting spree.

Over its last 56 minutes and 14 seconds, Texas has now made 17 3-pointers. In the eight games it played between Jan. 15 and Feb. 15, UT made a total of 20 3-pointers. The Longhorns are averaging 4.0 3-pointers per game, which ranks 336th among 359 Division I programs and 16th in the 16-team SEC.

End 1: Texas 24, Mississippi State 8

Texas point guard Rori Harmon has gotten off to a good start during the second Senior Day of her collegiate career. As UT built a 16-point lead in the first quarter, Harmon contributed four points and two rebounds. The Longhorns’ all-time leader in assists and steals, Harmon added to those records by setting up six scores and taking the basketball away from Mississippi State once.

Harmon went through Senior Day activities last March, but opted to use a medical redshirt that she had been granted from the 2023-24 season and return to Texas for one more year. She will be honored after today’s game alongside fellow seniors Kyla Oldacre, Teya Sidberry, Ashton Judd and Sarah Graves.

1st (5:11): Texas 14, Mississippi State 6

Sophomore guard Jordan Lee has knocked down two early 3-pointers at Moody Center as Texas has built an early advantage. Texas has made six of its first eight shots, and senior point guard Rori Harmon recorded an assist on five of those makes.

One thing worth noting about the start of this game was that Texas switched up its starting lineup for the first time since its game at South Dakota State on Dec. 21. Center Kyla Oldacre, who has been productive in a reserve role this season, earned the second start of her senior year. Junior Breya Cunningham, who had fouled out of four of the Longhorns’ last five games, wasn’t announced among the UT starters for the first time this season.
