INTENDING pilgrims to Mecca and Medina for the 2026 Hajj in Ogun State have been equipped with vital knowledge on Hajj rites, health management, and travel regulations.
The state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, at a one-day sensitisation programme, which also featured vaccination for intending pilgrims, emphasised the importance of strict adherence to laid-down guidelines.
The board chairman, Sheikh Zakaria Olohungbebe, while addressing the intending pilgrims, advised them to maintain discipline, sincerity, and devotion throughout the Hajj exercise.
He urged them to respect constituted authorities and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the true values of Islam.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the board, Taiwo Ajibola, reaffirmed the board’s commitment to ensuring a hitch-free pilgrimage.
He noted that the sensitisation programme was designed to properly guide pilgrims on the activities and rites of Hajj, while preparing them for the realities of the journey.
The programme featured detailed enlightenment sessions on Hajj rites, with religious scholars providing step-by-step guidance on the performance of the pilgrimage.
This was complemented by a vaccination exercise conducted by medical personnel to safeguard the health of pilgrims before departure.
In addition, health experts delivered comprehensive lectures on personal wellbeing during the pilgrimage, urging pilgrims to maintain proper hygiene, stay hydrated, comply with medical advice, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses and infections.
Security agencies, including officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), also educated the pilgrims on travel protocols and legal compliance.
They warned against carrying prohibited items, engaging in drug-related offences, or violating international laws, stressing that offenders would face serious consequences.
