Meghan Markle and Prince Harry step out in Jordan for surprise visit

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have stepped out in Jordan for the first day of their surprise visit to the country.

The couple kicked off their official trip to the Middle East on Wednesday and are expected to stay until Thursday, per a press release obtained by Page Six.

Their office didn’t announce the visit to Jordan until midnight local time on Wednesday.

Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, embarked on a two-day humanitarian trip alongside Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization (WHO) director-general, to focus on humanitarian health responses, mental health and support for vulnerable communities affected by conflict and displacement.

After touching down in Jordan, the royal pair attended a WHO roundtable in the country’s capital, Amman, hosted by Dr. Tedros and regional WHO leaders.

They also met with key donors and humanitarian partners to discuss health response and support for communities affected by conflict and displacement.

Philip Hall, who serves as the British Ambassador to Jordan, thanked the Sussexes for making the journey to Jordan, according to the BBC.

“Your visit, your support, your appreciation of the efforts that the United Nations, including, of course, the World Health Organisation, the government of Jordan and others, are making here is enormously appreciated,” he said, per the outlet. “So thank you for coming.”

Hall also reportedly discussed working together towards “regional peace” before noting that “we all know it’s very hard to achieve, but we’re all working on that too.”

Following the WHO roundtable, Meghan and Harry visited the QuestScope Youth Center at the Za’atari refugee camp before later accompanying a WHO delegation to meet with recent medical evacuees from Gaza in Amman.

On Thursday, they are scheduled to visit the World Central Kitchen Food, accompany a WHO delegation to the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts, visit female leaders at the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development and visit the King Hussein Cancer Centre.

Meghan and Harry’s surprise trip to Jordan this week marked their first joint international visit since traveling to Nigeria in May 2024 and Colombia in August 2024.

Their visit to Jordan also comes just days after Harry’s uncle, the former Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on Feb. 19, the same day as his 66th birthday.

Although the Sussexes are far away from the royal drama since leaving the UK and their royal duties behind for California in 2020, sources suggested that Andrew’s arrest could still have unforeseen consequences for them.

“The King took away Andrew’s titles, he can take away Harry and Meghan’s and he can take away Beatrice and Eugenie’s; he can do whatever he likes to save his skin,” a royal insider said.
