ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. (KABC) — A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department patrol vehicle was struck by gunfire on Sunday, according to the department.
The shooting happened shortly after 9 a.m. in the 600 block of Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates.
A Lomita Station deputy had just finished responding to a call about multiple vehicles driving at a high rate of speed in the area and was driving away when he heard a loud pop at the back of his car, the sheriff’s department said.
The deputy got out to inspect the vehicle and found a single bullet hole on the passenger side of the trunk hatch. No exit bullet hole was found.
The area was cordoned off and searched by law enforcement, but no shooter was found. The sheriff’s department said the deputy was not injured.
“This dangerous incident highlights the serious risks our deputies face daily in protecting our community. Shooting at law enforcement will not be tolerated, and all available resources will be used to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) responsible,” the department wrote in a statement.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lomita Station (310) 539-1661.
