The Kano State government has entered into a partnership with a Chinese engineering firm, CGC, to overhaul the state’s water supply system and address persistent water shortages affecting residents across Kano.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this during an inspection tour of major water treatment facilities in the state, undertaken to assess operational challenges affecting water production and distribution.
He explained that the collaboration with the Chinese firm will focus on conducting feasibility studies and providing sustainable solutions aimed at improving access to clean water for residents.
According to the governor, the partnership is designed to provide practical responses to the long-standing water supply challenges confronting many communities in the state.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, noted that the inspection covered key treatment plants, including the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, one of the major facilities responsible for supplying water to large parts of Kano metropolis.

The statement added that the governor and his team identified several operational challenges at the facilities, including pipeline leakages, malfunctioning machinery and obsolete equipment, which have significantly limited the efficiency of water supply across the state.
Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration will embark on the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure and upgrade outdated systems to enhance the efficiency and reliability of water distribution.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to safe and adequate water supply, noting that the partnership with the Chinese firm forms part of broader efforts to improve public health and guarantee sustainable water access across Kano State.
