Popular Nigerian social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, VDM has alleged that he received a call from the Department of State Services, DSS over a purported plan to stage a nationwide protest in respect of the face-off between the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
DAILY POST reports that INEC recently suspended recognition of the leadership of the ADC led by former Senate President David Mark (national chairman) and former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola (national secretary).
INEC reportedly acted following a judgement by the Appeal Court and a legal challenge filed by a factional leader of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe.
The development has caused confusion among the opposition figures, who came together and adopted the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
There are indications that there may be a nationwide protest as the party accused the government led by President Bola Tinubu of orchestrating the crisis.
VDM in a video clip he posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday alleged that an agent of DSS called him to inquire about the alleged planned protest.
According to him, the caller demanded to know the motive behind the planned demonstration, stating that they are plotting to cause unrest across the country.
He said, “This morning, I got a call from a DSS official and he said that what is the reason for the protest you people are planning? I asked him what protest? Because I am not planning any protest anywhere.
“He told me that from the report they got, said that I and some people want to cause unrest in this country.
“He said ADC contracted me to lead the protest on their behalf because of INEC so that we can cause unrest. I told the person on the phone that I am not partisan and I am not supporting ADC anywhere”.
