The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons in a lone accident that occurred in front of Christopher University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, also left eight other passengers with varying degrees of injuries.
Naija News reports that the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.
Odunsi stated that the accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. and involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL 789 YL.
Providing details of the incident, he noted that a total of 13 persons were involved in the crash.
According to him, the victims comprised 11 adult males and two adult females.
Odunsi attributed the cause of the accident to a burst tyre and excessive speed, which resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
He said, “Preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was caused by a burst tyre and speed violation, which made the driver lose control of the vehicle.”
The FRSC spokesman added that the injured victims were immediately evacuated to Famobis Hospital for treatment.
He further disclosed that the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue.
The corps, however, reiterated its call on motorists to avoid speeding and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent avoidable road crashes.
