After a pair of one-run wins to start the series, Texas A&M baseball left no doubt in Sunday’s 7-1 drubbing of Penn.
Right-hander Aiden Sims (2-0) was electric on the mound, striking out 10 batters over seven innings. The sophomore allowed no walks to go with three hits and a run. Josh Stewart, a right-hander who missed nearly all of last season with injury, finished things by throwing two scoreless innings.
A&M (7-0) scored one run apiece in the third and seventh innings and put two on the board in the third and fourth. Penn (0-3) mustered just four hits and committed two errors. Starter Josh Katz (0-1) allowed five hits and five runs over three innings of work. No Penn batter reached base more than once.
On offense, A&M was led by infielder Nico Partida, designated hitter Jake Duer and infielder Gavin Grahovac. Partida, a freshman, had a game-high three hits in four at-bats with a home run, two runs scored and two more driven in. Duer and Grahovac each had two hits, one double and drove in a run. Terrence Kiel II did his job out of the leadoff spot. The sophomore outfielder reached three times, stealing a base and scoring two runs.
The victory followed a 1-0 win Friday for A&M and a 2-1 win in extra innings. The Aggies will host Lamar on Tuesday.
