In a press release issued on Jan. 28, 2026, the Texas AFL-CIO announced that union delegates passed two resolutions at the organization’s 2026 COPE Convention in Georgetown, Texas, affirming support for immigrant communities and calling for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be removed from local communities.
According to the Texas AFL-CIO, the resolutions were adopted to express solidarity with immigrant workers and to oppose expanded immigration enforcement actions across the state. Texas AFL-CIO President Leonard Aguilar said the labor movement is united in standing with immigrants and working families, condemning violence tied to immigration enforcement and committing to collective action in response.
One resolution affirms solidarity with workers in the Twin Cities and calls for accountability, an end to ICE funding, and an end to federal immigration enforcement actions that target working-class communities. The resolution states that the Texas AFL-CIO will defend the rights of all workers, regardless of immigration status, and calls for ICE to be removed from all communities.
A second resolution outlines plans for coordinated action to oppose a potential expansion of immigration enforcement and the introduction of military troops in Texas. The resolution commits the Texas AFL-CIO to organizing unions statewide, developing rapid-response networks, providing legal and communications support, building coalitions with community and faith leaders, and urging employers and elected officials not to cooperate with federal enforcement actions, within the limits of the law.
The Texas AFL-CIO also announced plans to establish a statewide labor and immigration working group and called on affiliated unions to designate representatives focused on immigration-related issues.
