Protests erupt at Iran universities weeks after deadly crackdown, footage shows

Anti-government protests broke out at universities in Iran this weekend, just weeks after the deadly crackdown carried out by authorities left thousands dead.

We’ve verified videos of protests at five universities in Tehran, including clashes between pro and anti-establishment crowds, anti-government protesters shouting pro-monarchy chants, pro-government protesters setting alight US and Israel flags, and people waving the pre-revolution flag showing the lion and sun on campuses.

The team is also verifying material from Mexico this morning where a wave of violence has broken out following the killing of “El Mencho”, a major cartel leader, during an operation seeking his arrest. Retalliation over his death has spread across a number of states and we’re examining footage apparently showing the aftermath of soldiers being shot, businesses left torched and widespread roadblocks set up by cartel members.
