‘Adeojo has revived Oyo water schemes, expanded supply across key cities’ – Tribune Online

THE chairman of the Water Corporation of Oyo State, Hon. Elias Adeojo, has recorded significant progress in improving water supply across the state since assuming office three years ago.

This was contained in a statement issued by the corporation’s Press Officer, Kazeem Ogunmola.

According to the statement, upon his appointment, Adeojo embarked on a comprehensive tour of water schemes statewide, identifying critical challenges and convening meetings with directors, engineers and technical officers to fashion practical solutions.

A major priority was the reconnection of the Asejire Water Supply Scheme, which had been disconnected prior to his appointment, the statement said.

It said the scheme, responsible for supplying over 70 per cent of potable water to the Ibadan metropolis, was successfully reconnected after Adeojo negotiated an instalment-based settlement of outstanding obligations with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Water supply, it added, has since been restored to areas including Molete, Bode, Labiran, Yemetu, Bashorun and Agodi Gate.

“The Eleyele Water Supply Scheme has also received attention, with damaged pipelines repaired and potable water supply restored to Eleyele, Sango and adjoining communities.

“Adeojo’s interventions have extended to key government institutions, including the Agodi Correctional Centre, while Ladoke Akintola International Airport has received approval for connection to the water supply network.

“Other parts of the state have also benefited from renewed efforts, with the Oyo Water Supply Scheme now operational, the Ogbomoso Water Supply Scheme revitalised, and the Eruwa Water Supply Scheme rehabilitated,” the statement said.

It stated that despite the achievements, the corporation continues to grapple with challenges such as unstable power supply and limited funding.

However, it noted that Adeojo’s proactive and result-oriented leadership has underscored a strong commitment to improving water access and enhancing the welfare of residents across the state.
