

THE ancient town of Zuru in Kebbi State Thursday evening stood still in grief on as the remains of the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, were laid to rest in an atmosphere marked by sorrow, emotion and sober reflection.
Thousands of mourners gathered at the Zuru Central Jumu’at Mosque to bid a final farewell to a man widely described as a symbol of humility, dedication and selfless service.
Zuru, who passed away on Monday at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, following a protracted illness, left behind a legacy that resonated across all strata of society in Kebbi State.
The funeral prayer, led by Imam Suleiman Tanko at about 6pm, attracted an unprecedented crowd, including the Kebbi State governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi Sami Gomo III; the deputy governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida; Senator Muhammad Adamu Alieru, Ambassador Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, Hon. Bello Kaoje, Hon. Kabiru Tukura, members of the state House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, Special Advisers, as well as political, traditional, and religious leaders.
The large turnout of sympathisers from within and outside the state was a testament to the impact the late Speaker had on the lives of the people, reflecting on his contributions to democratic governance and the development of Kebbi State.
During his lifetime, Hon. Usman Muhammad Zuru was known for his calm disposition, commitment to legislative excellence, and unwavering dedication and loyalty to the progress of the state.

Earlier in his condolence message, Governor Idris described the death of the Speaker as not only a loss to his immediate family and the people of Zuru Emirate but also a monumental loss to Kebbi State and the nation at large.
The governor and the Emir along with other top government officials were at cemetery where the late speaker was laid to rest according to islamic rites.
