Ebonyi NANS stakeholders endorse Nwuruku as sole candidate for senate president – Tribune Online




Stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ebonyi have unanimously endorsed Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred as the sole candidate from the state for the position of President of the NANS Senate.

The endorsement was the outcome of a stakeholders’ forum held at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, at the weekend. The meeting brought together past and present student leaders, Student Union Government (SUG) presidents, zonal and campus representatives, and other key actors within the student movement in the state.

According to a communique signed by Comrade Okoro Joshua Offor, Chairman of the Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum, the decision followed extensive deliberations, consultations, and a comprehensive assessment of eligible aspirants from Ebonyi.

The forum described Nwuruku, a postgraduate student of Biochemistry (Pharmacological Biochemistry) at Ebonyi State University, as a competent and experienced leader with a proven track record in student activism and organizational leadership.

The communique highlighted his contributions to NANS, noting his dedication, strategic coordination, and commitment to strengthening the student movement. Stakeholders expressed confidence that his emergence would reposition the NANS Senate as a vibrant and effective legislative body capable of advancing the welfare and rights of Nigerian students.

The forum also called on all student leaders and stakeholders across Ebonyi State to unite and mobilise support for his candidacy, emphasizing the need for collective action in the interest of the state and the broader student community.

Beyond the endorsement, the stakeholders urged Nigerian students nationwide to actively participate in the 2027 general elections while maintaining peace and rejecting electoral violence and malpractice.

They further commended the Federal Government for the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a strategic initiative to improve access to higher education. The forum, however, called for sustained implementation, transparency, and continuous improvement of the scheme to maximize its impact.

Reaffirming their commitment to the unity and progress of the student movement, the stakeholders said the endorsement reflects a shared vision for a more responsive and effective NANS Senate.

Accepting the endorsement, Comrade Olisa Alfred Nwuruku, expressed joy and promised not to take the support for granted. He also commended Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for his efforts in ensuring the welfare and smooth movement of students.

He further accepted the responsibility to represent students at NANS, pledging to revive and restructure the association. He urged students in other states to support his ambition, assuring them of his commitment to liberating and advancing students’ interests.

He also promised to maintain peace throughout the process and prayed for a legitimate victory.
