

Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has officially announced his intention to run in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made this known on Thursday during his appearance before the Oyo State PDP Governorship Screening Committee. After completing the screening, Akintayo formally unveiled his ambition to party members and supporters at a gathering in the Ibadan North Local Government area.
In a statement, Akintayo said he was stepping into the race with “deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility” as he seeks the party’s ticket.

He highlighted that his tenure as Executive Chairman has been marked by commitment, transparency, and a strong emphasis on grassroots development. According to him, his administration has executed impactful projects and implemented policies aimed at improving the lives of residents.
Akintayo added that his background in public service, leadership, and governance has prepared him to effectively lead the state. He also noted that his prudent management of resources and inclusive style of governance have earned him broad grassroots support.
Expressing optimism about his chances, the PDP stalwart said his connection with the people and his track record in office make him a formidable candidate capable of delivering victory for the party in 2027.
He further promised to build on the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that the current administration has established a strong foundation in infrastructure, economic development, and good governance.
“I am determined to consolidate on these gains and ensure sustained, purposeful leadership that will move Oyo State to even greater heights,” he said.
