The Federal Government has described the recent United States travel advisory on Nigeria as unbalanced, urging international partners to provide more accurate and up-to-date assessments of the country’s security situation.

Naija News reports that the US government had authorised the departure of non-essential personnel from its embassy in Abuja and advised Americans to avoid travelling to Nigeria over security concerns.

Reacting to the development on Thursday, a spokesperson to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Rabiu Ibrahim, said the advisory did not fully reflect the security progress being made in the country.

“We encourage our international partners to continuously engage with Nigerian authorities to obtain a more comprehensive and current understanding of the situation on the ground,” Ibrahim wrote in a statement posted on X.

The US State Department, citing security challenges across parts of Nigeria, urged American citizens to avoid travelling to several states across the country.

It also directed non-essential embassy officials to depart Nigeria as a precautionary measure.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that a ₦5,000 note featuring the image of President Bola Tinubu, which has gone viral on social media, is fake.

The CBN, in a post via its 𝕏 account on Thursday, urged members of the public to disregard the image.

The apex bank dismissed speculations that it had released a sample of a ₦5,000 note featuring President Tinubu.

“This content is fake. Let the public be guided,” the CBN statement read.

The CBN made the clarification after the image went viral on social media, with some netizens alleging that the apex bank had released a sample for the new note.

Fresh details have emerged on the circumstances surrounding the death of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh, who was killed during a deadly terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Military sources said the senior officer was unable to escape the attack after the armoured vehicle he attempted to use reportedly developed a fault at the height of the assault.

The attack, reportedly carried out by fighters linked to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, left several soldiers dead and others injured or missing.

According to a military source who spoke on Thursday to Sahara Reporters, the late brigade commander attempted to leave the base as insurgents advanced during the attack.

The source explained that Braimoh tried to escape using a bulletproof armoured vehicle, but the vehicle reportedly failed to start.

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, on Thursday called for an end to silo operations among Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies, stressing the need for integrated intelligence to effectively tackle the country’s growing security challenges.

He made the call during a meeting with members of the intelligence community in Abuja.

Musa noted that although various security agencies had been making efforts to address threats, their operations were often fragmented, limiting overall effectiveness.

“We all know the importance of intelligence, particularly in asymmetric warfare, where threats come both from within and outside our borders. What we have observed is that, while we have been operating effectively, much of our work has been in silos. It is high time we integrate these efforts so that all actions are coordinated and impactful,” he said.

The minister disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had directed improved collaboration across all security services, emphasising that no agency should operate in isolation.

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the suspension of visa appointments at its Embassy in Abuja.

Naija News reports that the suspension was communicated in a post shared on the mission’s official 𝕏 account on Thursday.

The Embassy did not announce the reason for the Abuja closure or how long it will last, but asked applicants to check their emails for updates.

“U.S. Embassy Abuja is closed for visa appointments. Applicants should check their email for details on rescheduled appointments,” the statement read.

The mission, however, clarified that visa operations at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos remain active.

“Visa operations at U.S. Consulate General Lagos continue,” it added.

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday, met with members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Naija News reports that the meeting came amid strong indications that the governor is perfecting moves to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling APC.

One of the Bauchi lawmakers, who spoke after the meeting in the presence of the governor, said the engagement centred on the ongoing political realignment in the country and the state.

“We are here today as members of the National Assembly to meet with our governor and leader. We are here today on a special invitation to discuss the ongoing realignment that is going on in Nigeria and most especially in our state. To discuss the political development in our state,” the lawmaker said.

The Deejays Association of Nigeria (DJAN) has dismissed reports about banning the music of Grammy-awarding singer, Burna Boy, from playlists following a recent physical altercation between him and DJ Tunez.

Naija News reports that the DJAN National President, Prince Akim Edeh, in a statement issued on Thursday, described the reports as false and misleading, advising media platforms to stop spreading the falsehood.

The association distanced itself from the reports and condemned the unauthorised use of its logo to support the misleading claims.

DJAN maintained that the association is monitoring ongoing investigations into the incident and remains committed to fostering a healthy music environment.

The association also revealed that DJ Tunez is not a registered member of DJAN, adding that it did not ban Burna Boy’s music and has no intention of doing so.

Emmanuella Ropo, the wife of Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde, has reacted to claims spreading online about her family life, saying the reports are not true.
