Tension is rising at Sevilla FC after a group of angry supporters reportedly confronted players, including Super Eagles duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke, following Sunday’s shock defeat to Real Oviedo.
Sevilla slipped to their 15th loss of the season after a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the Carlos Tartiere. The result stretched their losing run to three matches and left the club hovering just two points above the relegation zone with eight fixtures left.
Relegation from La Liga would mark Sevilla’s first drop from the top flight since the 1999-2000 campaign, and frustration among supporters appears to be boiling over.
According to L’Équipe, around 50 masked fans confronted the squad when they returned to the training ground after the defeat.
“These angry fans blocked the entrance to the facility, insulting both the players and staff. It took the intervention of security personnel to keep the players safe and defuse the situation,” the report said.
“Super Eagles stars Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke were in the middle of the incident, but thankfully, they and their teammates escaped unscathed.”
Adams has been Sevilla’s leading scorer in La Liga this season with seven goals in 25 appearances. The striker has also delivered two goals and one assist in his last 10 outings and has three assists overall, one behind team leader Ruben Vargas.
Ejuke has recorded one goal and one assist in 22 appearances during the campaign.
Sevilla now face a daunting test as they prepare to host Atlético Madrid on Saturday, a match that could prove decisive in their fight to avoid relegation.
