NANS president dissolves Ogun JCC executive council – Tribune Online

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Oladoja, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC) executive council following weeks of escalating leadership disputes within the axis.

Oladoja announced the dissolution of the Comrade Francis Abiola Gabriel-led JCC in Ogun in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Abuja.

The decision, contained in a comprehensive report titled “Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC) Imbroglio: The NANS HQ Verdict”, comes after the National Secretariat reviewed multiple petitions, counter-petitions, and official communications detailing constitutional breaches and internal conflicts within the Ogun JCC.

Oladoja noted that the investigation revealed persistent constitutional misinterpretation, administrative lapses, and deepening factional activities that threatened the unity and operational stability of NANS in the state.

He explained that the outgoing JCC chairman was found to have exceeded his 12-month constitutional tenure and failed to carry out key processes required before transitioning to a new administration.

According to him, these lapses included the inability to convene a Pre-Convention Senate Meeting within the stipulated timeframe and the failure to set up an Independent Convention Planning Committee (ICPC) ahead of the transition period.

The NANS president, citing a lack of cooperation, divisive tendencies, and actions capable of deepening factionalisation, formally dissolved the entire Ogun JCC executive council with immediate effect.

“All stakeholders are hereby directed to disregard any actions or decisions emanating from the dissolved leadership,” the report stated.

He, therefore, announced the constitution of a new transition committee to restore order and ensure a constitutionally compliant transition process.

The nine-member transition committee is chaired by Comrade Akinbodunse Sileola Praise, the NANS Vice President (Inter-Campus Affairs).

Other members of the committee include Comrade Adeyemi Samson Ajasa, NANS National Public Relations Officer, who will serve as secretary; Comrade Salako Olawale Ayomipo; Comrade Kuruyo Oluwaremilekun; the Student Union Government (SUG) President of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic; the SUG President of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB); the SUG President of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; the SUG President of the College of Health, Ilese; and the SUG President of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori.

The committee, which will also serve as the Convention Planning Committee, has been mandated to organise and supervise new JCC elections within 30 days.

Comrade Oladoja emphasised that the forthcoming elections must be conducted with “utmost transparency, fairness, and credibility” to prevent a recurrence of the crisis.

He promised that the NANS national leadership would observe the process and ensure full compliance with constitutional provisions.

The NANS president affirmed that the verdict is final and issued in the interest of peace, unity, and constitutional supremacy within the student movement.
