China has urged countries to strengthen collaboration in implementing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, framing global partnership and cooperation as essential for advancing shared prosperity.
The call was made by Qu, Director of the Institute of International Studies at China Foreign Affairs University, Beijing, during a seminar titled “Exchange of China’s Experience in Reform and Opening-Up for Developing Countries,” held in the Chinese capital.
The two-week programme, themed “China’s Reform and Opening-Up Experience for Developing Countries,” highlights China’s diplomatic priorities and efforts to share its development model with nations seeking economic and social progress.

Speaking on “Four Global Initiatives and Building a Global Community with Shared Future,” Qu outlined China’s key foreign policy objectives, including global development, security, civilisation and governance initiatives.
“China is building global partnerships, advancing its diplomatic agenda, and promoting fairness in global governance,” Qu said. “Amid unprecedented global crises, China has remained calm, seeking opportunities and strategically planning its national rejuvenation.”
He explained that these initiatives aim to foster stable and balanced relations among major countries, reform the global governance system, and ensure a shared future for regional neighbours and developing nations.
Qu noted that China’s diplomatic shift from a low-profile approach to major power diplomacy under President Xi Jinping has been guided by what he described as ‘Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy.’
“Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy is the fundamental guideline and action guide for China’s foreign work in the new era,” Qu said, “emphasising peaceful development, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.”
He described the Belt and Road Initiative as a platform for trade, connectivity, green growth and development, noting that China has successfully lifted 100 million people out of poverty by 2020, a decade ahead of schedule.
“From the outset, even when China faced its own economic constraints, it supported needy countries in their fight for national independence and economic development
“China has helped other developing countries reduce poverty, boost agriculture, improve education, enhance infrastructure, and accelerate industrialisation,” Qu said.
Qu stressed that peace and development remain the defining challenges of the era, quoting former Chinese President Deng Xiaoping: “The peace issue is about East-West relations, while the economic issue is about North-South relations.”
He concluded that implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals requires global collaboration, scientific innovation, and the sharing of China’s experience in reform and development to ensure equitable progress for all nations.
