Ankwai died on Monday evening in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been on admission for treatment on an undisclosed ailment, according to a statement issued by Murtala Diri, an official of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

Members of Kebbi House of Assembly have been thrown into mourning following the death of their Speaker, Muhammad Usman Ankwai.

Ankwai reportedly died on Monday evening in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been on admission for treatment on an undisclosed ailment.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by Murtala Diri, an official of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

Mr Diri, in the statement shared on his official Facebook page, described the death of Ankwai as a significant loss to his community.

“The death of the Speaker is a significant loss to his constituents, the legislative body, and the state in general,” the statement noted.

Zuru represented the Zuru Constituency and was a prominent political figure within the Zuru Emirate.

He was elected Speaker of the 10th Assembly on 8th of June, 2023.

The statement indicated that details of burial arrangements and official condolences for the speaker will be announced by the Kebbi State Government and the deceased’s family.

It was gathered that the new of the death of the Speaker Ankwai has sent shockwaves across the state, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated leader.
