Labour Party (LP) former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s promise on tackling insecurity while lamenting the spate of fresh bandit attacks and killings across the country.
Naija News reports that Peter Obi’s reaction follows Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau State, where he assured residents and family members of the victims of the Palm Sunday deadly attack that such incidents would not recur.
However, Peter Obi, in a statement via his 𝕏 handle on Monday, titled, ‘“This Experience Will Not Repeat Itself” – Another Presidential Promise fails in less than 24 Hours’, asserted that subsequent events appear to contradict Tinubu’s assurance, citing fresh attacks in Plateau, Zamfara, Borno and other states.
Peter Obi noted that less than 24 hours after Tinubu visited Plateau state, another brutal attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South LGA, resulting in the deaths of several innocent citizens.
The former Governor of Anambra State noted that Nasarawa State has been plunged into grief as the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities fled for their lives after gunmen killed at least 11 people.
Peter Obi also cited the attack in Borno State, with over 17 Nigerians massacred, entire communities left in ruins, and many individuals still unaccounted for, stressing that the country is bleeding.
He maintained that protecting lives and property remains the government’s primary responsibility.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could prevent the party from fielding candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Naija News reports that the party said the electoral body’s refusal to receive its correspondence may effectively shut it out of the electoral process.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party expressed concern that INEC’s current position could make it impossible for the ADC to meet key legal requirements ahead of the elections.
According to the party, by declining to accept its communications, the commission is hindering its ability to comply with statutory obligations, including the 21-day notice requirement and submission deadlines set by the Electoral Act.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a swipe at former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as inconsequential in the forthcoming election.
Taking to his 𝕏 account on Monday, Onanugacriticized Obi for always attacking President Tinubu and his administration’s policies online.
According to him, Obi and other opposition leaders have turned President Tinubu into their favourite whipping boy.
The presidential media aide, however, insisted that Tinubu has nothing to do with Obi’s decision to dump the Labour Party or the challenges facing his new party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He accused the former Anambra State Governor of failing to demonstrate leadership in resolving the Labour Party crisis and also failing to take the initiative to turn the Obidient Movement into a political party.
According to Onanuga, should Peter Obi emerge as a presidential candidate for any party in the 2027 elections, he would be no match for President Tinubu, boasting that the former Labour Party candidate can’t repeat the 2023 feat.
The Youth Wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the restoration of the party’s leadership as recognised in 2025 or risk nationwide civic action.
The group warned that failure by the electoral body to comply could trigger peaceful protests across the country, including the occupation of INEC offices in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing journalists on Monday at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, the ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufa’i, accused INEC of acting outside its constitutional mandate and weakening democratic institutions.
Rufa’i described the current situation as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic system.
According to him, “Nigeria is under democratic siege,” alleging that institutions meant to protect the will of the people were being compromised and used against democratic principles.
The youth leader traced the leadership crisis to a National Executive Committee meeting held on July 29, 2025, where the party dissolved its National Working Committee and elected a new leadership headed by former Senate President David Mark.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has addressed speculation about leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid the party’s leadership crisis.
Speaking in an interview with BBC pidgin, Atiku stated that defection was unnecessary, adding that he remains committed to the party.
Atiku said the party believes the courts will recognise David Mark’s leadership.
He said, “We believe the trial court will dispense the case as soon as possible, even before Congress. Observers are not lawyers, but we are confident the court will uphold David Mark’s leadership.”
Asked about joining other political parties due to the crisis, Atiku stressed that ADC has established structures and significant investments, making defection unnecessary.
The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), DIG Shehu Umar Nadada to relocate to Kaduna State following the recent attack on Ariku village.
According to a statement on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, Nadada’s mission is to coordinate security efforts to restore order and secure the release of the abducted victims.
He added that the DIG would collaborate with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), in efforts to secure the rescue of the victims kidnapped during the attack.
The statement confirmed that already seven of the kidnapped victims have been rescued and are receiving medical attention ahead of reuniting with their families.

Nollywood actress, Georgina Onuoha, has demanded the arrest of controversial relationship expert, Blessing Okoro, better known as Blessing CEO, after admitting to fake breast cancer claims.
Naija News reported that Blessing, CEO, in an interview with the popular online show ‘Young and Healthy Bros’, hosted by content creator Egungun, clarified details about her cancer diagnosis and responded to public speculation.
Blessing explained that miscommunication had fueled some of the confusion around her condition, stressing that she had just received the biopsy results.
According to Blessing, she has not started chemotherapy and is still awaiting further tests to determine the exact stage of the cancer.
Addressing the backlash over the cancer controversy, Blessing CEO admitted to receiving ₦13 million from Nigerians, saying she would not apologise or refund anyone.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted fault and apologised for the late red card he received during Nigeria’s 2-2 friendly draw with Jordan on March 31.
