Ex-Kwara finance commissioner joins race for Reps seat – Tribune Online

Former Commissioner of Finance in the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, has declared her intention to run for the seat of member representing the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.

The former commissioner is one of 11 aspirants eyeing the House of Representatives seat from the constituency.

Oyeyemi, who was the Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign spokesperson during the 2023 general elections, made her declaration in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, at the weekend, promising quality representation.

Declaring her intent, Oyeyemi promised quality representation that will not only benefit women but all demographics.

“Inclusive governance is key to sustainable development. I am committed to strengthening women’s representation across all programmes and initiatives, guided by merit, proven capacity, track record, and strong grassroots connections.

“While advancing women’s inclusion, we will maintain a balanced approach that ensures the needs of all demographics are addressed, fostering unity, fairness, and collective progress within our constituency,” she said.

In response to the current security challenges, Hon. Oyeyemi promised to promote stronger collaboration with national and state security agencies, while facilitating a constituency-based community security vanguard to complement existing structures, if elected.

“Our goal is to ensure our people live and work together in peace without fear,” she said.

The event was attended by the Ogun State Director of Contact and Mobilisation, City Boy Movement, and Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mrs Angel Adelaja; the aspirant’s husband, Chief Adedayo Oyeyemi; and the Chairman of the APC Elders’ Caucus in Irepodun Local Government, Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju.

Speakers at the forum took turns to canvass for women’s representation, presenting the aspirant as a preferred choice among the 11 persons eyeing the House of Representatives seat from the constituency.

Advancing reasons why the other local governments should support Oyeyemi, elder statesman Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju said, “Because of what the federal government is preaching now — gender sensitivity — and because we know that this seat ought to go to Oke-Ero Local Government, I call on the four local government areas in the federal constituency to support Hon. Oyeyemi for fairness, justice, and equity.”

Adelaja, on her part, urged the people of the Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency to rally support for Oyeyemi, saying she has the network to facilitate development for the constituency.

“This is our time to make sure we have adequate representation. She has paid her dues as a commissioner. She has the network that will benefit you,” she said.
