Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has dismissed claims that he is contesting for a Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
Naija News learnt that the denial follows social media speculation suggesting that Ortom was preparing to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in the next election cycle.
However, Ortom, in a statement issued on Saturday in Makurdi through his media aide, Terver Akase, clarified that he has no intention to contest any elective office in 2027.
While describing the speculation as fabrication, Ortom also urged the public to disregard the reports.
He reiterated that his focus remained on promoting democratic values, strengthening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and providing leadership guidance rather than seeking elective office.
He said, “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.
“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation.”
Meanwhile, Ortom recently denied rumours of his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress, describing the reports as false, mischievous, and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Terver Akase, Ortom said the claims were a deliberate fabrication by political opponents unnerved by his continued influence in Benue politics.
“The report is entirely false and misleading. It exists only in the imagination of its promoters,” the statement said.
The former governor alleged that desperate elements went as far as forging an APC membership card with his name and circulating it online in a bid to lend credibility to the claim
