Leader of Spain's Failed 1981 Coup Dies as Government Declassifies Papers



MADRID, ⁠Feb ⁠25 (Reuters) – Former ⁠Civil Guard officer ‌Antonio ‌Tejero, ⁠who led ⁠a failed coup in 1981 against Spain’s ⁠then nascent ⁠democratic ⁠system, died on Wednesday aged 93, ⁠his ⁠law firm said, the same ⁠day that the Spanish government declassified ⁠documents related to the coup.
